Should you avoid downtown Vegas?

You don't want to wander too far off Fremont street at night. Lots of gangs in the area and you don't want to get mugged. Those dark alleys and old run-down buildings are not the safest place for tourists. If the name of the street is a number or letter it's the oldest part of town and probably in the bad part. Stay in lighted areas and in groups if you can. There's a right way and a wrong way to lose your wallet in Vegas. The slots and tables are more than capable of doing that for you. ;)
