If you always have your laptop plugged in and charging there shouldn't be any significant dropoff in battery life. The cycle of draining and then recharging is what shortens the life of the battery. It's not even worth the hassle of leaving the battery out and constantly charging either. Just keeping it plugged in (with the battery installed) is your best bet in my experience.

I gotta get hi performance out of my laptop for stuff like games and torrents. When I leave it plugged in after full charge it's overheating the battery and killing the life. I unplug after it tops.
