Answered: Should newborns sleep on their stomachs?

All of you saying yes don't know what you're talking about. I hope nothing bad happens to your babies because of your ignorance. My daughter died of SIDS and it was a tragedy. Read the story of Carlie Shelton on the web. A pediatrician ok'd it and she was allowed to sleep on her tummy while her twin brother slept on his back (in 2 different cribs) and died at 11 weeks. Don't make that mistake with your baby when there are so many other things you can try if they're having problems on their back!

Answered: Should regular peanut butter be refrigerated?

Yes, unless you like mold. As soon as the vacuum seal is broken the contents are exposed to air. Air contains all kinds of spores that cause mold. While the peanut butter itself will not go bad, in the sense that milk goes bad, it can get moldy if not refrigerated after it is opened.

Answered: Should babies watch TV?

Absolutely. Remember we are talking about babies, not school age children who should be limited with their TV time. But that's only because school age kids have so much else to do like read books and play outdoors. Letting babies watch TV actually is a form of interaction with the outside world. They hear all sorts of new words. They see interraction between people. They hear sounds and music. All of this stimulates mental growth. It goes without saying that parents must be careful to allow only appropriate shows. That isn't the issue here. The issue is simply whether babies should be allowed to watch TV. The parents control the input and the input stimulates responses which creates brain activity. And brain activity is what babies need to begin development. I would rather have a baby watch television than stare at a rattle hanging overhead in a crib for hours.

Answered: Should adults get flu shots?

The last couple times I got a flu shot I felt achy and got the flu a few days later. Now that could be a coincidence but I don't think so! If you got sick too you're probably better off going against this dogma health organizations are pushing on the public about how flu shots are so important. Worst thing that happens is you get the flu.

Answered: Should adults take naps?

Afternoon naps benefit adults (same way they do for children), especially if you aren't getting enough sleep at night. Studies proved this. This one found that you're equally alert if you sleep all night as if you sleep less and make up for it with a nap. The exceptions are if you have insomnia or depression. If you're depressed napping can make it worse. I disagree with the previous poster. I read napping up to 90 minutes is fine.

Answered: Should you eat before a workout?

You never want to work out on an empty stomach. If you have less than an hour before your workout you should just eat carbs that are easily-digestible. Whenever possible eat a full meal with carbohydrates, fat, and protein at least 3 hours before you work out.

Answered: Should you stretch before running?

You should warm up and then make flexibility training part of your daily routine before running, especially as you get older. But it's really more important to stretch after running. It helps you maintain your muscle length after you put them through their paces.

Answered: Should smoking be banned?

Alcohol, guns and cars kill people just like smoking. Are we going to ban them too? This isn't communist Russia. We are a country built on freedoms. Sometimes I feel like we're a society of crybabies. If you're against cigarettes find ways to support making them healthier and less toxic to bystanders. But they ain't going away anytime soon.

Answered: Should Obamacare be repealed?

Keep it IMO. It'll stop this nonsense with pre-existing conditions. Insurance companies are taking advantage of people with pre-existing conditions by making them pay high premiums. Right now there are 20,000,000 children under 19 with conditions who are being denied insurance unfairly.

Answered: Should dogs eat grapes?

Keep them away from your dogs! They're as bad as chocolate. If they eat them it will damage their kidneys. Any more than a couple and you'll want to make them vomit them up (if they aren't throwing them up already). If they eat a lot take them to a vet ASAP so they can be treated. Same goes for raisins.

Answered: Should alcoholics receive liver transplants?

The deciding factor IMO is whether that liver the candidate receives will be damaged unnecessarily. These days former alcoholics can receive a liver transplant if they prove they've been clean for 6 months. That makes sense to me. If a study is done showing most of these recovering alcoholics go back to the bottle after their transplants then maybe we should rethink it. Otherwise I say give them a second chance!

Answered: Should you pop pimples?

The problem with popping your zits is your fingernails can tear your skin, you might push the bacteria deeper in the skin or you may move it over to other areas of your face. Instead of popping use an acne treatment like a cream so it doesn't scar. If you have an acne condition you should talk to a doctor to determine how best to treat it.

Answered: Should newborns sleep on their stomach?

Not if your baby is healthy. The old thinking was a baby wouldn't be strong enough to turn over and it would choke if it needed to vomit. This was proven wrong over time. It can even be dangerous for them to sleep on their stomachs because the sheets could hinder their breathing. The number of cot deaths each year is much less now that doctors are recommending keeping them on their backs.

Answered: Should girls drink protein shakes?

Absolutely. I'm following The New Rules of Weightlifting for Women and it emphasizes how important protein shakes are after your workout. They clean out impurities from your body and you're not as sore when you have one after a workout because it helps your muscles recover. Get one that's both low in fat and calories. If you want even less calories replace the milk with water.

Answered: Should AIDS testing be mandatory?

It shouldn't. Passing AIDS or HIV from one person to another is not as easy as normal, everyday contact. The circumstances of contracting the disease from a carrier involves more intimate contact and transfer of bodily fluids like blood. Professions that are susceptible to catching and spreading the virus usually screen their employees. These industries can implement their own policies when it makes sense but there's no need for a wide-scale AIDS testing rule.
