Naps give you more energy (but they have to be the right length - about 20 to 30 minutes). A short nap will improve your attitude so you'll be less grumpy the rest of the day. If you get drowsy often this can be the answer. So many accidents are caused when people aren't alert. Don't be another statistic.

Afternoon naps benefit adults (same way they do for children), especially if you aren't getting enough sleep at night. Studies proved this. This one found that you're equally alert if you sleep all night as if you sleep less and make up for it with a nap. The exceptions are if you have insomnia or depression. If you're depressed napping can make it worse. I disagree with the previous poster. I read napping up to 90 minutes is fine.

I've stopped taking them. They make me groggy afterwards. Then my sleep pattern is all fouled up. I have trouble getting back on track. If you have insomnia often like me I would try to minimize them.
